A statement confirming the decision was posted on the boutique’s website on Wednesday.
“As all good things must come to an end,” the statement said, “after 20 wonderful years, Colette should be closing its doors on December 20th.” The company cited retirement plans for the founder, Colette Roussaux, who ran the store with her daughter, Sarah Andelman, and made it one of fashion’s favorite new-style family businesses.
“Colette Roussaux has reached the time when she would like to take her time; and Colette cannot exist without Colette,” the statement read, referring to the store requiring its founder.

IT HAS been a busy week for affordable US retailer Target which is gearing up to launch one of its biggest collaborations ever with London department store Liberty. The announcement comes on the heels of Monday's news that Zac Posen will be the latest designer name to create a range for the store. (Read about the designer's Target collection here.)
The collection is set to sample some of Liberty's most iconic prints and will comprise of clothing for men, women and children and homewares. The collection will be available in Target stores and on TARGET.COM, as is usual with the brand's collaborations, but - London shoppers will be pleased to hear - it will also be available in Liberty following its launch in March.
"Target really started the trend of pairing mass marketers with brands and designers, and I feel like Liberty is joining their hall of fame," Geoffroy de la Bourdonnaye, chief executive officer of Liberty, told WWD. "It's a real accolade for us to team with a store that is known as an incubator of fresh talent and design. We consider Liberty to be the same, so it's a good pairing."
